Due to weather conditions, Creamfields was forced to pull the plug on the festival on its third and final day this weekend with organisers said to be desperately sorry they had to abandon the event.

On Sunday morning day ticket holders were told not to come to the site and hours later a decision was taken to cancel the festival entirely. Flash flooding was the primary reason for the festival’s cancellation but more details as to what exactly led to the decision have been released today.

With heavy rain falling between 3am – 6am on the Saturday night, several stages including the Groove Armada Presents, Cream Arena and Super You & Me were deemed too unsafe to use on the Sunday. By 7am, 150cm of rain had fallen and event management met with police to discuss the feasibility of the event continuing.

At 7.30am the emergency liaison team meet with the emergency services and the site was deemed a ‘serious incident’ by the emergency services. At 9am, after the decision was taken to tell day ticket holders to stay away from the festival and further assessments were carried out to address whether the site was safe for the festival to continue for those already on site. According to a statement issued by Creamfields, one of the major concerns for festival organisers and emergency services was the flooding of the North and South bridges which connect the campsites with the main arena.
When these were deemed to unsafe to use, organisers were forced to cancel the third and final day of the festival.

The festival organisers have also touched upon the issue of refunds announcing there will be a full announcement of what people need to do to claim theirs in the next 24 hours.
